In an effort to foster a better relationship between the Police and the citizenry, the Chief Executive Officer of JayPlug Gadgets, Jowosimi Olumide recently paid a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale in his office.

During the visit, the young techpreneur held a discussion with the Police boss on the issue of gadgets pawning and how best to apply the CPC Consumer Protection Act Cap 25, 2024.

The new act embodies Nigerian laws on promotion and protection of consumers’ interest over all products and services, and empowers the elimination of hazardous and substandard goods from the Nigerian markets.

CP Olawale applauded Jowosimi’s role in reducing unemployment by engaging several youths in his gadgets stores located across the country.

And to Jowosimi, the Police Chief was excited to receive him and also elated that young people are increasingly becoming employers of labour and leading various industries in the country, with JayPlug Gadgets emerging a top player in the phones, gadgets and consumer electronics industry.

Against this background, CP Olawale reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the security of lives and properties of Lagosians, with a focus on proactive policing and rapid response in emergencies.

Explaining how he has been able to run a thriving consumer business despite the harsh economic situation of the country, Jowosimi said, “The economy has been tough, no doubt. People are more cautious with their spending, and the fluctuating exchange rate has made it harder to keep prices stable. But even with these challenges, we’ve been able to keep the business running smoothly. Our approach has been to continuously find ways to adapt and offer our customers value for their money. It’s not easy, but we keep pushing forward.”

Jowosimi, however, called on the Federal Government to adopt measures that would help young entrepreneurs beat the current economic headwinds.

“The government can play a big role in helping young entrepreneurs like myself. For one, the provision of grants and loans at low interest rates would go a long way in supporting small businesses. There is also a need to have more empowerment programmes for young people who want to go into business. Another key area is stabilizing the foreign exchange rate so that businesses that depend on imports can plan better and avoid sudden price hikes. If the government can address these issues, it will greatly improve the business environment for us,” he declared.

The Biochemistry graduate from the University of Lagos was emphatic in his belief that, with government intervention and business owners on their part imbibing diligence, honesty and integrity, the economy will begin to pick up.
