Team Nigeria continued its impressive performances in different events at the 13th edition of the African Games in Ghana, racking up a few medals on another thrilling day of the Games.
Team Nigeria’s Elizabeth Mausi Zannu made history in women’s Arm Wrestling, becoming the first ever athlete to win a medal in the Arm Wrestling event.
Zannu won Gold in the women’s 55kg after defeating Ghana’s Rachael Lankai.
In men’s Arm Wrestling, Samuel Ifeanyi Nmeka was in the medal-rain for Team Nigeria, accounting for two Bronze medals in the Left and Right hand men’s 85kg Arm-wrestling event.
Nigeria finished the Arm-Wrestling event with a total of 13 medals.
In women’s weightlifting, Mary Osijo continued Nigeria’s impressive outing in the Weightlifting event at the African Games, putting everything on the line to make sure she got at least one Gold medal on offer in the women’s 87kg.
Osijo won three medals, lifting: Total – 231kg (Silver), Snatch – 103kg (Silver), Clean & Jerk – 128kg (Gold).
Nigeria claimed the Bronze medal in the women’s Beach Volleyball event, winning the 3rd place match against Rwanda at the African Games.
Nigerian players, Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa teamed up to win the 3rd place match 2-0: (22-20, 21-12) which earned them the Bronze medal.
With two wins in two games, the Nigerian men’s Handball team was on a roll as it secured a second consecutive victory at the ongoing African Games.
Nigeria followed up the win in the first match, beating Mali by 30-18 to all but secure their place in the next round of the competition.
