Teacher education: NCCE backs WICE on women empowerment

National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), has identified with the empowerment and professional development agenda of the Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), and has thrown its weight behind efforts to provide a platform for women’s academic and professional development.
The women expressed concerns about the consistent drop in quality of education particularly in colleges of education as well as increasing cases of abuse of female students and workers in the sector, and had promised to raise their voices against such maltreatment against women.
NCCE senior official, Dr. Lami Dutse, who administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives of the association in Abuja, reminded them of the enormous task ahead.
Dutse challenged them to properly study the policies and programmes of the previous executive with a view to either consolidating on their achievements or improving on their shortcomings.
She extended the commendation to the immediate past executive, led by Mrs. Mary Aibangbe, for their ingenuity that raised the standard of the association in midst of contemporaries, thus giving members confidence and a strong voice at any forum.
The new president, Mrs. Zipporah Diguruyil, told journalists after taking office that her tenure would mark the beginning of holistic transformation in the association.
She promised to devote more energy to professional development of members so that they can stand a better chance to contributing meaningfully to socioeconomic discussions in Nigeria.
