The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Nigeria said it has recorded major gains against transnational crime, disclosing that more than 10 fugitives were arrested, over 60 trafficking and kidnapping victims rescued, and more than ₦2 billion in criminal assets permanently forfeited between 7 September 2025 and August 2026.
This was contained in a statement released on Monday in commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation.
The UN International Day of Police Cooperation is observed every September 7 to highlight the vital work of police and law enforcement agencies in keeping the world safe.
The bureau said the results stemmed from sustained international police cooperation and intelligence-sharing with law-enforcement partners across five continents.
The period also saw at least five international extraditions and handovers completed, more than 43 financial-crime cases investigated, and over 15 cybercrime referrals received from partner National Central Bureaus.
The bureau described the outcomes as concrete evidence of cross-border policing in action.
It said fugitives were located and brought closer to justice, trafficking and kidnapping networks were disrupted, rescued victims were returned to safety, and complex financial and cybercrime probes advanced through coordinated work with INTERPOL partners worldwide.
“This is the impact of police cooperation without borders,” the statement said, “connecting intelligence, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that criminals have fewer places to hide.”
In a separate statement, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to deepening cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement partners, noting that effective information sharing, coordinated investigations, capacity building and cross-border operational support are essential to confronting emerging security threats and ensuring that criminals cannot exploit jurisdictional boundaries to evade justice.
In the statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Ani Iniedu, the NPF said it recognises that international police cooperation is an essential component of modern policing and will continue to strengthen partnerships that enhance intelligence-led policing, support investigations, protect communities and improve the collective capacity of law enforcement agencies to respond to transnational crime.
“As the international community marks the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to working with partners at home and abroad to protect lives and property, support victims and build safer communities,” the statement further reads.
