The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced its South-West e-membership registration train-the-trainer workshop in Lagos, as part of efforts to digitise its membership database and enhance internal administration.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, officially flagged off the exercise at the State House, Marina.

The event was attended by the APC National Secretary, Senator Basiru Ajibola, who led members of the National Working Committee (NWC), as well as Lagos APC chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and secretaries from the six South-West states.

Represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the digital registration initiative as a significant step towards strengthening the party’s structure and improving administrative efficiency.

According to Hamzat, the electronic membership system would enable the APC to accurately determine its numerical strength and track members down to the ward level.

“This exercise is particularly important and necessary for us to be able to know and identify true members of our party. It is not when elections are approaching that people will suddenly claim to be members. Digitising the party’s database will synchronise our activities across the grassroots and help gauge people’s confidence in the party,” he said.

He added that the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s long-standing commitment to data-driven governance and political administration, noting that such innovation would improve accountability, transparency and coordination within the party.

Hamzat also emphasised that a party’s efficiency in governance was often a reflection of its internal organisation, stressing that digitisation would help eliminate inadequacies in nomination processes, internal elections and overall operations.

In his remarks, Ajibola, who represented the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, explained that the digital registration initiative would reinforce the APC’s legitimacy as a true membership-based organisation.

He noted that the new system would also prevent non-members from exploiting the party’s internal benefits and nomination processes.

“Our leader, President Tinubu, has taught us that politics is both scientific and technical, driven by empirical data. This exercise is designed to improve our party’s chances in future elections by providing accurate information on our membership and demographic spread,” Ajibola stated.

He assured that the APC had already developed the necessary hardware and software infrastructure to support the exercise, with members of the National Working Committee deployed to all six South-West states to supervise implementation.

Also speaking, the APC Deputy National Organising Secretary, Chidi Duru, disclosed that the South-West would be the last region to host the workshop, marking the final phase of the nationwide capacity-building exercise.

Duru added that the initiative would empower party officials to verify and identify members seamlessly across the country, ensuring a more transparent and efficient organisational structure.

The South-West e-membership registration workshop is expected to be replicated across all six states in the region in the coming weeks.
