Former governor of Abia State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Kalu has urged Nigerians, regardless of religious differences, to embrace peaceful co-existence.
He stressed that Nigeria is blessed as a multi-ethnic nation, and added that with mutual respect among people of different religious beliefs, peace will reign in the country.
According to the former governor, the tenets of Ramadan should be sustained beyond the holy month as a way of adhering to the teaching of the Qu’ran and exemplary qualities of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him).
In his Eid-el-Fitr message, signed by his Special Adviser, Alhaji Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu urged the Muslim community to seize the festivity to offer prayers for the country and President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ I join our brothers and sisters of Islamic faith in celebrating the end of Ramadan. The holy month of Ramadan is a special month in the Islamic calendar and as such, we should sustain the virtues beyond the holy month. Let us embrace selflessness, piety, alms-giving,brotherhood and service to humanity in our daily lives.
“The festive season is an opportunity for self appraisal and spiritual rebirth. It is my prayer that Allah will grant the Muslim Ummah the attendant blessings of Ramadan.”
The former governor called on Muslims to celebrate with people of other religious beliefs and wished Nigerians hitch-free celebration.
He equally seized the occasion to commend religious leaders and traditional rulers for their efforts in promoting peace and unity across the country, and added that Nigeria is better off as an indivisible entity.
