Surulere Lawyers Forum celebrates end of year in style

In line with its yearly tradition, the Surulere Lawyers Forum, under the leadership of Barr. Prince Eddy Njoku, closed the year 2023 with a series of activities, which commenced with a health walk on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Before and after the walk, members of the forum and residents availed themselves of the opportunity of free health tests sponsored by the forum.

On Wednesday, November 23, 2023, members of the forum paid a charity visit to Path to Solutions School and Orphanage in Makoko, where they donated books, clothes, shoes, toys, food items and other gift items to the children of the school.

The close out event, which is the annual dinner and award night, was held last Saturday with the theme: ” Proudly Nigerian”.

Chairman of the Dinner Planning Committee, Mr. Mayowa Owolabi, thanked everyone for swinging with the theme, which was chosen with the intention to awaken the sense of patriotism in the country.

A narrative, which was provided by a distinguished member of the forum (Peter Ozobialu) on the forum’s WhatsApp platform, aptly describes the night’s events.

There was a display of different traditional attires and culture of various ethnic groups in Nigeria. One of the participants of the cultural display,  Mbanugo Eno from  Akwa Ibom State, recommended that any woman who desires to give birth to a set of twins should give her husband an Akwa Ibom delicacy called Ekpang nkwukwo, which is yam porridge replete with peculiar soup condiments.

Chioma, an Igbo lady, delved into herbal research to postulate that the easiest way to keep a wayward husband at home is to always have bitter leaf soup in the kitchen, as it does not only enhance libido and chance of multiple births, but is also a panacea for prostate cancer. Raqueba, from the Yoruba extraction, on the other hand, recommended amala with ewedu or gbegiri as a recipe for making any man feel homesick. They ladies were unanimous in their opinion that wives should give their husbands more of local delicacies and less of alien dishes to minimise cases of divorces.

It was, indeed, an interesting way to wind down the year and get in the mood for the celebration of Yuletide.
