The Delta State Government, on Monday, expressed worries over the practice by some unscrupulous civil servants who allegedly collude with dubious contractors to compromise professional standards in project execution across the state.

Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Joseph Ogeh who expressed this concern during a ministerial press briefing in Asaba, warned that any civil servant caught in the act will be made to face severe sanctions.

Ogeh told newsmen that the compromising attitude of some staff of the ministry with dubious contractors which end up in the delivery of sub-standard projects, was a major challenge to the government.

He said some staff who were caught in the unholy romance with contractors have been demoted, adding some were made to resign while others were made to lose promotion to the next cadre.

Ogeh did not however reveal the number of personnel that have been sanctioned for compromising standards in project execution.

He said the sale of Guinea House, a property of state located in Lagos was carried out by the immediate past administration of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in line established due process.

“This is not supposed to be an issue because it is a property of the state. It was sold by the last administration, we only came to meet the documents. Based on the documents, the sale followed due process,” he stated.

Ogeh stated that the ministry has embarked on housing projects aimed at providing affordable houses for Deltans and other residents of the state.

He said a fresh contract for the completion of 154 three and four bedroom bungalows at Okerenkoko was awarded to Disek Integrated Global Limited in October last year at 2,905,385,852.23.

Ogeh stated that ministry has equally be involved in the renovation of government residential quarters and offices just as it completed the construction of Head of Service office complex in Asaba at the cost of N477,169,721.05, among other projects.
