Infrastructure for the judiciary is not evidence of executive meddling, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said, pointing out that the FCT Administration also provides infrastructure for the National Assembly.
He said this at the kickoff of the design, construction, and equipping of the Body of Benchers’ annex office in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, there was nothing to conceal regarding the provision of judicial infrastructure, adding that the president had approved the establishment of an office building for the Body of Benchers in the FCT’s 2023 supplemental budget.
“As we speak today, it is the Federal Capital Territory that is providing the official residence of the legislature. That is a different arm of government. But it is the FCT that is providing their residence. As we speak today, it is the FCT that is building the new complex of the National Assembly. That has nothing to do with interference of the arm of government. At the end of the day, the project will be handed over to the legislature for them to manage.
“I am very thankful, and I thank the President for approving this project. Mr. President took this project to the National Assembly, and he assented to it on November 8th, 2023, after the National Assembly had passed the supplementary budget. So, this project is provided in the Supplementary Budget of the FCT in 2023, as assented to by the President on November 8th 2023. It is obvious that there is nothing hidden,” he said.
While promising that the project would be finished in the allotted ten months, Wike also told the Body of Benchers that the administration would also build residential units for the Nigerian Law School instructors in Bwari, which he said the president had approved.
