Experts have advised parents and schoolteachers on proper upbringing of children in accordance with Islamic tents.
The advise was given at the 2022 Islamic Education Fair symposium (IEF) tagged ‘The portrait of a total child’, organised by Lagos Radio Service.
Dr. Munirudeen Salaahudeen Arriyaadiy of Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin who, delivered lecture on the template of an exemplary child and new normal, urged parents to hold enormous leverage on how they train their children for the betterment of society.
“You must teach your children how to respect elders, our children are gifts from Allah. He gives to whomever he wishes. You must take care of them and develop their mental and intellectual capacity.
“Allah has given them the ability to understand, starting from birth, we need to develop that ability. Every child is endowed with intellectual ability. Whatever you upload in the brain of the child will determine the personality of that child,” he said.
Speaking further, he challenged parents to inculcate fear of Allah in their children and also teach them good morals.
“To have a total child, parents must make their children friend of Allah. You must draw him closer to Allah; let him learn about his religion. We call ourselves Muslims because of our clothing but in our homes our spiritual development is empty. There us no spirituality again.
‘’As a parent to inculcate the fear of Allah upon your children. The spiritual development will contribute to make them a total child”, he added.
Also, the Director General, Quality Assurance, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Dr. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, delivered lecture on Childhood and learning overload, holistic insight, charged teachers on professionalism.
Seriki-Ayeni, who was represented by Akodu Kamoroudeen, raised the alarm on danger of exposing children to many thing that were not relevant to their development.
She tasked both parents and teachers to always to always guide and teach children in accordance principle of their religion.
