Sports Commission to spend N450m on entertainment, sitting allowances

There will be so much wining and dining at the National Sports Commission (NSC) throughout this year, as the leadership of the Commission has set aside a whopping sum of N450 million for refreshments, meals, honorarium and sitting allowances.

According to the breakdown of the 2026 Annual Appropriation Bill with the National Assembly, while refreshments and meals will gulp N100 million, the Commission revealed that it will expend a staggering sum of N350 million on honorarium and sitting allowances out of the large chunk of N12.505 billion set aside in its Miscellaneous line item for this year alone.

But, while the Commission will be expending the staggering sum for entertainment, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), however has set aside a manageable sum of N23 million for the same purpose this year, earmarking the sum of N3 million for refreshments and N20 million for sitting allowances respectively from the N1.358 billion contained in its Miscellaneous line item.

The Commission’s eggheads equally confirmed the possible participation of Nigeria in almost all the sporting tournaments this year with the sun of N10.471 billion set aside for sporting activities.

It also generously budgeted over N885.352 million for fueling and lubricants which will ensure that its motor vehicles, other transport equipment, plants and generators are kept running without experiencing any blackout throughout this year.

More importantly, the Commission clearly sent a strong warning signal to troublemakers to limit their boundaries for any form of trouble by earmarking a total sum of N140 million for litigations and legal services this year.

According to the Proposed Appropriation, it also indicated its readiness to execute countless number of sports projects this year by generously budgeting N185,649 billion as capital expenditure, indicating that it intends to spend N4.555 billion on purchase of motor vehicles this year too.

And while the construction of office buildings and provision of sporting facilities will gulf N15.500 billion and N34.284 billion respectively, it will expend N2.155 billion for provision of other facilities.
