Three South Africans have been arraigned in court for the alleged killing of Isaac Satlat, a 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver, in Pretoria West.

The suspects Dikeledi Tears Mphela (24), Goitsione Machidi (25), and McClaren Mushwana (30) appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of premeditated murder and robbery. A fourth suspect has handed himself over and is expected to be charged soon.

Isaac Satlat was reportedly killed on February 11 after picking up passengers who had requested his service. Dashcam footage shows a female passenger attacking him while a male accomplice joined in the assault. Satlat was allegedly strangled from behind, his body left in the car as the suspects drove off. Police later recovered the vehicle with his body inside.

The South African National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the suspects abandoned their bail application, with the case adjourned to February 23 for further investigations.

“It is alleged that the accused ordered the e-hailing service using a mobile phone number not registered in their name,” said Lumka Mahanjana, NPA regional spokesperson for Gauteng. “The suspects forced the deceased to stop the vehicle, strangled him, and stole his phone and car. Investigations and arrests followed swiftly after the incident, with footage circulated on social media aiding law enforcement.”

The NPA reiterated its commitment to bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice, working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability.
