Nigerian music executive and producer Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about how his childhood experiences shaped his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of people he encounters.
The Mavin Records founder reflected on his upbringing while recalling the difficult period when his mother sold akara in Ajegunle, Lagos.
Don Jazzy said those experiences influenced the way he views success and his responsibility towards others, particularly people going through financial difficulties.
“Sometimes I used to tell my guys that some people that usually claim they suffered didn’t really suffer,” he said.
He recalled sitting beside his mother as she fried akara and watching wealthy people drive past them.
“I remember sitting down beside my Mom while she fried akara in Ajegunle and I’d see rich people passing by with their cars and then I’ll be imagining them making generous advances to me,” he said.
According to the music executive, those childhood experiences remain part of the reason he finds it difficult to meet people without wanting to make a difference in their lives.
“This is the reason why people meet me and I have problem with not making impact in their lives,” Don Jazzy said.
His comments highlight the influence of his early experiences on his approach to wealth, generosity and helping others.
Over the years, Don Jazzy has become known not only for his contributions to Nigeria’s music industry but also for supporting individuals and causes through financial assistance and public gestures.
