Murtala Haliru Dantoro, son of the late Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Senator Haliru Dantoro (Kitoro III), has issued a passionate public appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for urgent and sustained security intervention in Borgu Kingdom, Niger State, amid escalating attacks by armed bandits.
In a strongly worded statement addressed to the President and made available to newsmen, Dantoro accused the federal government of failing to protect communities that he said are “bleeding” under persistent insecurity.
According to the statement, more than 42 people have been killed in recent months across Borgu communities, including New Bussa, Babana, Dugga and Wawa (Gbere). Dantoro cited the recent killing of youths in Wawa as evidence that the security situation is worsening.
Dantoro highlighted the economic consequences of the insecurity, noting that commercial activities have been crippled, especially in Babana, a border town with the Republic of Benin.
He said transporters now refuse to travel to the area, making it impossible for farmers and traders to move goods.

He also warned that development initiatives under the President’s Renewed Hope agenda are not reaching grassroots communities affected by violence.
Dantoro outlined a 10-point security plan, calling for immediate military deployment within seven days, the establishment of permanent military bases in key towns, and the sealing of porous borders with Benin and Niger Republics.
He also called for the strengthening of intelligence gathering through community leaders and hunters, rehabilitating roads and clearing ambush-prone routes, as well as instituting 24-hour joint military and police patrols.
He further called for a sustained military presence for at least five years and a dedicated annual security budget for the region.
Beyond the Presidency, Dantoro also appealed to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to intervene, citing its mandate to promote peace and stability in Northern Nigeria. “The chaos and killings are getting seriously out of hand,” he warned.
