Cape Verde has become the sixth African country to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The small island nation has also become the second-smallest to qualify, after defeating Eswatini 3-0 on Monday night.

The win ensured that the Blue Sharks finished first in their group, ahead of heavyweight Cameroon.

Dailon Livramento opened the scoring for the hosts in Praia, before Willy Semedo volleyed in a second.

Veteran defender Stopira added the third in stoppage time.

Fans stormed the 15,000-capacity National Stadium at full time, celebrating their nation’s first-ever appearance at the World Cup.

Other African teams that have qualified include Tunisia, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, and Algeria.
