Former High Commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria and Ghana, Ambassador Nyahuma Obika, has commended Nigerian diplomat and United Nations Peace Ambassador, Simeon Adewale Oladele, for writing the book, Determined Not To Fail, noting that it documents the remarkable journey of the author.

Obika, gave the commendation in his remarks at the public presentation of the book held at the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.

Obika, who was the chairman of the event, said: “This is a testament to what determination, discipline, and vision can achieve. ‘Determined Not To Fail’ is not just a book; it is a blueprint for resilience and purpose.”

Also speaking, member of the European External Action Service, European Union Building, Trinidad and Tobago, Ms Emmanuella Io, lauded Oladele, noting that the book will inspire generations.

“Simeon’s story reminds us that guidance, perseverance, and focus can shape destiny. His example encourages all of us to mentor, nurture, and empower young people in our communities,” Ion said.

Earlier in his welcome address, Oladele, who serves as the Finance Attache at the Nigerian High Commission in the Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, reminded the guests of the broader purpose of the book, which is to serve as a guide for youth empowerment, leadership, and legacy-building.

The author stressed that the book, whose foreword was written by the Group Chief Executive of OANDO, Wale Tinubu, is both a personal testament and a universal call to action, inspiring readers across generations to pursue their goals with unwavering resolve.

He shared how his experiences in Trinidad and Tobago, including his involvement in local cultural events and marathons, have broadened his perspective on resilience, patience, and determination.

One of the Fathers of the Day, Dr Raghunath Mahabir, reflected on the book, particularly the influence of the author’s late mother, saying, “The book encapsulates the principles that shape a life well-lived. It shows that even when raised by a single parent, love, guidance, and dedication can nurture extraordinary outcomes.”

The guest speaker, Dr Luke Quamina, described the book as a manual for leadership and resilience.

Drawing on his decades of experience as a global mentor and coach, he said, “What Simeon has shared goes beyond personal triumph. It is a seed of legacy for the next generation, a guide for anyone seeking to make an impact.”

Chartered Accountant and Partner at Anderson, Robbie & Baines Associates, Mikhail Baines, shared, “Being raised by a single parent, I resonate deeply with Simeon’s journey. This book is a gift for anyone willing to embrace the principles of determination and excellence.”

Former Inspector of Financial Institutions for Central Bank Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick Solomon, noted the parallels between his own life and the author’s story.

“Reading this book, I saw reflections of my own path. Determination, integrity, and resilience are timeless values, and Simeon embodies them in a way that inspires us all,” he remarked.

Sakala Akibua, who delivered the final message, said, “Simeon’s conduct today speaks volumes. Witnessing his journey reminds us that greatness is not defined by circumstance but by commitment to one’s vision.”

Oladele revealed that the book is now available in Trinidad and Tobago, in Nigeria, as well as online.
