Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, visited Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of his senatorial district to personally assess the extent of destruction caused by recent attacks and to commiserate with grieving families and residents.
The visit formed part of the lawmaker’s ongoing efforts to identify with affected constituents, engage traditional and community leaders, and support coordinated recovery and security interventions.
During the visit, Senator Sadiq interacted extensively with residents and local leaders, offering condolences to families who lost loved ones and reaffirming his solidarity with the community at this difficult time.
He paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Kaiama, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, where he met with the monarch and chiefs from various communities. The senator also visited burial sites of the victims and toured locations where homes, properties, and livelihoods suffered varying degrees of destruction.
In furtherance of a coordinated response, Senator Sadiq engaged officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and military officers overseeing Operation Savannah Shield, deployed on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to ensure the safe resettlement of residents and restoration of security in the area.
Reiterating the commitments of both the Federal Government and the Kwara State Government, led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Senator Sadiq assured residents that efforts to restore peace, security, and normalcy would be sustained. He pledged to intensify follow-up actions to ensure that promised interventions and relief reach affected communities promptly.
As part of immediate relief measures, the senator distributed palliatives and provided cash support to victims. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperative by sharing timely information with security agencies to aid efforts at safeguarding lives and property.
In a further demonstration of his commitment, Senator Sadiq had earlier visited survivors receiving treatment at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, where he sympathised with the injured and offered support towards their recovery.
Speaking during the visit, the Village Head of Woro, Alhaji Umar Bio Salihu, commended the senator and his team for coming to assess the situation firsthand. He expressed appreciation for the timely intervention and solidarity shown to the people, noting that the visit brought reassurance to affected families and the entire community.

Addressing residents, Senator Sadiq condemned the attack in strong terms.
“I am saddened by the tragic and senseless attack on Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area, which led to the loss of innocent lives. This painful incident has left our hearts heavy and our community in mourning.
“This barbaric act of violence is a stark reminder of the security challenges confronting our nation. It is cruel, unacceptable, and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. No community should have to endure such horror, and no life is expendable.
“I wish to assure the people of Woro Community and Kaiama LGA that we are actively engaging with the Kwara State Government and relevant Federal authorities to ensure the deployment of more security to protect lives and property, and to prevent a recurrence of this tragedy.”
The senator acknowledged the sacrifices of security agencies, calling for intensified intelligence gathering, increased patrols, and proactive measures to secure rural and vulnerable communities.
“I acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of our security agencies who continue to make sacrifices to protect lives and maintain peace under very challenging conditions. However, this painful incident underscores the urgent need for intensified and sustained security presence across our rural communities.”
He further appreciated the Federal Government under President Tinubu, the Kwara State Government, and Nigerians who have stood in support of Woro, Nuku, and Kaiama communities, urging sustained support and prayers for lasting peace across Kwara North.
“In this moment of grief, we stand in solidarity with the families of the victims and the entire community. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may God grant their loved ones strength and comfort. Even in sorrow, we must remain united and hopeful as we work collectively towards lasting peace and security.”
