The Osun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” which occurred in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura.
According to the command, officers were initially dispatched to the scene following reports of a road traffic accident near the Energy filling station in Ile-Ife.
He said, upon arrival, operatives secured the area, restored order, and confirmed through preliminary investigations that Oyeyemi had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Ojelabi assured the public that the command is taking all necessary operational and investigative measures to uncover both the immediate and remote causes of the attack, track down the perpetrators, and ensure everyone culpable is brought to justice.
Strongly condemning the killing, Zungura appealed to residents, groups, and aggrieved parties to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
He warned against any form of criminality, reprisal violence, or destruction of property.
Expressing condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, the command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and maintaining peace, urging the public to cooperate by providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.
