From Tony John, Port Harcourt

Suspected sea pirates have attacked and shot dead four operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers State.

The four NSCDC operatives were reportedly killed on  the waterways in Bakana River in Degema Local Government Area of the state yesterday.

Details of the attack were sketchy at the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that the gunmen targeted the security operatives who were on routine patrol along the Bakana River.

It was reliably gathered that the sea pirates ambushed them from the creek and gunned down four of them.

According to reports, two of the four  victims were Muslims and  had  already been buried according to Islamic rites.

The state Command of NSCDC in Port Harcourt has not made any statement in respect of the incident.

Several calls placed on the mobile phone of the Public Relations Officer of the State Command,  Olufemi Ayodele,  were not picked.
