SCOBA Stanza 838 raises N10.32m to boost education

Old Boys

St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo Old Boys Association (SCOBA) Stanza 838 has exceeded its Scholarship Endowment Fund target, raising N10.32 million barely two months after launching the N10 million initiative.

The achievement accentuates the enduring Charlean tradition of service, brotherhood and an unwavering commitment to educational excellence. Introduced in October 2025, the Scholarship Endowment Fund was created to provide long-term educational support for deserving recent graduates of St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, as well as children of SCOBA Stanza 838 members. The enthusiastic response from alumni turned the initiative into a landmark success, reflecting a shared belief in education as a catalyst for personal growth and national development.

To guarantee sustainability, the N10.32 million will be invested in carefully selected low-risk financial instruments, with the principal preserved indefinitely. Only the annual investment returns will be deployed for scholarships and educational awards, ensuring that the benefits of today’s generosity continue to impact future generations.

The milestone was achieved through strong cross-generational participation, with remarkable support from Senior Friends of the association. Notable contributors include Dr. Latif Bamidele Opawoye of the 1965 set; Adeyemi Adetoye and Dr. Femi Dokun of the 1982 set; Otunba Jerry Bamgbade of the 1983 set; Prof. Soji Oderinde of the 1985 set; and members of the 1988 set, whose leadership and generosity inspired others to give.

With the fundraising phase concluded, attention has shifted to execution.

The Education Committee will work alongside trusted financial advisors to invest the funds securely, establish robust governance and oversight structures, and develop clear, transparent criteria for scholarship applications and selection. Annual reports detailing fund performance, scholarship awards and overall impact will be published, while the first batch of scholarships is projected for the 2026/27 academic session, subject to investment maturation and final processes.

Commenting on the accomplishment, Chairman of SCOBA Stanza 838, Charlean Akinjide Salami, described the endowment as more than a financial intervention, saying it symbolizes shared values and a collective belief in education as the foundation for personal and societal transformation.

In the same vein, the Education Committee, led by Charlean Dr. Segun Odejide with Charlean Dayo Durotoye as Secretary, expressed profound appreciation, noting that although future beneficiaries may never know the names of today’s donors, they will forever enjoy the opportunities their generosity has created.

The successful conclusion of the campaign marks a defining moment in the journey of SCOBA Stanza 838, proving what can be achieved when members unite around a common purpose. Beyond a fund, the endowment stands as a living legacy of the values nurtured at St. Charles Grammar School, excellence, service and brotherhood, ensuring that financial constraints do not limit the aspirations of deserving students.

As celebrations continue, contributions to the endowment remain open as members work to further grow and strengthen the fund.
