As part of measures to promote public peace, safety and order during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Benue State Command, has deployed 1,760 personnel across the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ejelikwu Michael, a Superintendent of Corps, and made available to journalists in Makurdi.

According to the statement, the State Commandant, Bitrus Larai, charged heads of departments, area commanders, divisional officers, heads of special units and location commanders to be proactive and ensure that lives and property are secured.

She said the proactive move was aimed at protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as guaranteeing peace and security in the state before, during and after the Sallah celebrations. The statement read: “You are aware that Eid-el-Kabir is scheduled for May 27 and 28, 2026; therefore, large congregations are expected at Eid prayer grounds, markets and recreational parks across the 23 local government areas.

“Consequently, you are directed to deploy personnel to provide security, crowd control, traffic management and emergency response at all designated Eid prayer grounds and strategic locations to ensure peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebrations.”

The commandant enjoined personnel to remain professional, vigilant and dedicated in carrying out the assignment.

She also promised continued collaboration with other security agencies for the overall safety of the state.

The statement added that the deployment was drawn from the Female Strike Force, Agro Rangers Unit, Mining Marshals, VIP Protection Unit, Anti-Vandal Unit and the Counter-Terrorism and Rapid Response Unit.

The commandant assured law-abiding citizens of their safety and urged them to cooperate with security agencies to guarantee peace, law and order in Benue State.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command said it had taken comprehensive security measures to ensure peaceful, orderly and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebrations across the state.

The command said it had deployed personnel to maintain security during and after the celebrations.

“The deployment comprises conventional police officers, tactical units, traffic personnel and undercover operatives working in synergy with sister security agencies,” the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, “The command has deployed personnel and assets to key locations including Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, parks and event venues to maintain law and order before, during and after the festivities.

“The operation is focused on crowd management at prayer grounds and public gatherings, traffic control on major routes to prevent gridlock, intelligence gathering and surveillance to forestall security threats, as well as enforcement of existing laws against illegal use of fireworks, reckless driving and public disorder, among others.

“The command urges residents to cooperate with security personnel on duty, comply with lawful directives and promptly report suspicious persons, objects or activities through the command’s emergency lines.”
