Delta State Government has called on indigenes of the various communities, especially those playing host to oil and gas companies across the state, to develop the culture of protecting facilities built to render welfare services to their people.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Festus Agas, gave the advice, yesterday, at the commissioning and handover ceremony of a Basic Health Centre built and furnished by the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) for Ijomi community in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The SSG, who was represented on the occasion by an Assistant Director in his office, Onajomo Ideh, noted that the reason most indigenes were denied the privilege of enjoying the benefit of social amenities built in their areas is due to the destructive nature of some members of the community.
While commending the NGC management for such a noble gesture extended to the Ijomi community, he admonished the indigenes to reciprocate the good intention by ensuring adequate protection of the facility, so it can stand the test of time.
Earlier in his speech, NGC Managing Director, Babatunde Bakare, described the Ijomi indigenes as a peace loving and law-abiding people, who never had reason to disrupt its activities since the company commenced operations in the community.
