From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja
Abuja chapter of Rotary Club has called on society to focus on maternal and child health, mapping out health interventions in some communities of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The District 9127 Governor, Dame Princess Joy-Okoro recently led the club to donate delivery items to over 100 women in Masaka community of neighbouring Nasarawa State.
The Rotarian governor said the intervention was part of her concerted efforts to enhance maternal and child health in the FCT and across Nigeria.
She explained that the club decided to extend its charity work to the pregnant women because it is the month of maternal and child health.
“We are here to see our women because this month in rotary is themed maternal and child health. We came to reach out to the pregnant women and those that have delivered and to give them mosquito nets and all the birthing kits. The pregnant women don’t need to go with anything to the hospital for delivery. The total amount we have spent on each item is N50,000 for over 100 people.”
