Three suspected members of a robbery gang have been arrested for attacking and robbing the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Alausa Police Station, Lagos.

The DPO, CSP Tokunbo Abaniwanda, was leading a sting operation at Otedola Bridge, Alausa, Ikeja, when the gang attacked her with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons. They stole her Samsung S22 phone and fled.

According to a police source, the robbers escaped to Ogun State and continued their criminal activities.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday. He stated that the suspects were tracked down to a hotel in Akute, Ajuwon area of Ogun State on April 13th.

The ringleader, Tochukwu Nonso (a.k.a Thug life), 29, and Chidera Christopher, 25, were arrested with the stolen phone and other exhibits. During interrogation, they confessed to forcefully taking the phone and injuring the DPO with a machete.

A third suspect, Richard Etim, 25, was apprehended in another part of the state.

Hundeyin revealed that the ringleader had been robbing on Otedola Bridge for over five years, changing gangs to avoid arrest.
