Chicken pox disease has ravaged Okujagu-Ama community in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

This was even as the authority of Okrika LGA has called on the people not to panic, as it was on top of the outbreak of chicken pox disease in the community.

Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Okrika Council, Lawrence Alabala, made the appeal, saying efforts were in progress to tackle the menace.

Alabala, who spoke through the Supervisor for Health and Sanitation, Aduko Dere, said over 15 people affected by the disease, were being treated, after a visit to Okujagu-Ama community.

A cross-section of people affected by chicken pox in the community, disclosed that the disease has lasted for over two months in the area.

They called on the State Government to come to their aid through the provision of potable water and medicine.

In a related development, the management of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), said it has put facilities in place to treat any case of monkey pox outbreak in the State.

The Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof. Aaron Ojule stated this during a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, saying that several suspected cases of monkey pox had been treated successfully in the hospital.

He, however, said that the hospital has never recorded any confirmed case of monkey pox virus.

The UPTH CMD, Aaron, also advised residents to maintain good hygiene and report cases of unusual rashes on their bodies for prompt action.
