As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concludes the collation of the governorship election of Rivers State today, Mr. Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress candidate that never was, obviously frustrated. To show his frustration he is calling for the cancellation of the election, according to a press statement he released.
One can only sympathise with Cole. He lost out. His political party, the APC, lost out. He and APC do not want to come to terms with the fact that the people of Rivers State overwhelmingly voting for Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in the governorship election.
The National Chairman of Zenith Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, has made damning revelations of how APC chieftains approached his party to agree to be used for the political robbery they are attempting in Rivers. The party rejected the offer and they found a willing ally in the political party they now used. They thought the Rivers people will standby and be robbed of choice in the election. It won’t happen.
Their mission failed like pack of cards. They unscrupulous soldiers to subvert the people’s will, but God did not allow them to succeed. They are trying to promote false narrative that Rivers State. It did not stick. They want to cause a constitution crisis in the state so that a sole administrator will be appointed. This will also fail like his previous ungodly plots.
The question the desperate APC chieftains from Rivers should answer is this:
Why is their plots failing? The answer is simply: God will not allow evil to prevail. The should learn lessons from what happened in Akwa Ibom, Delta, Cross River, Abia, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Anambra States. In these states, those who thought they had “Federal Might” and could have their way failed. These people attempted to twist the will of their people, but capitulated to the votes of the people. They never ordered “Federal Might” to kill their people and destroy their property . They wanted to win, but they were not extremely desperate.
In Rivers State the opposition elements knew they were unpopular but focused on rigging the election. When they knew this won’t work, they tried to disrupt the electoral process.
Political pundits have clearly stated why APC failed to get the people’s support in Rivers. Former governor of Rivers State and Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi, has been in government for four years ,but could not attracted any federal project to Rivers. The East-West Road has been totally abandoned. The ports have been deserted, while the Port-Harcourt-Aba road is subject to political window dressing. The International Wing of the Port Harcourt Airport was funded by a loan obtained by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
When he was governor, Amaechi ran Rivers State aground. The judiciary was shut for more than one year.
Of course, Rivers people took note of this. And a minister, Amaechi has not influenced the Federal Government to do something for the state. Instead, Rivers has been marginalised by the APC Federal Government.
The Rivers State governorship election has been won and lost. Amaechi and his associates know they lost. That is why they are calling for the cancellation of the election. They have failed woefully. No plan will torpedo the will of God and that of Rivers people. The people have voted for Governor Wike to lead the state till 2023.
Rivers people have made their choice. They will proceed towards 2023 with Wike as their governor. There is nothing Amaechi is his associates can do about this.
