History was made on the 31st October 2026, as Igwe Nnewi, Dr. KON Orizu CON, JP inaugurated the Nnewi Royal Cabinet as one of the events to mark his 101 years birthday and 63 years on the throne of his forefathers. Recall that the Igwe had on the 22nd of February 2026 dissolved the Chief Dan Ulasi-led Igwe Nnewi Royal cabinet to make way for a more diverse and representative Nnewi Royal Cabinet.
The new 67- member Nnewi Royal Cabinet consists of prominent Nnewi citizens from all walks of life who are very accomplished in their various professions and trades. They were carefully drawn from the four quarters of Nnewi with a clear objective of supporting the Igwe Nnewi and the Obis of Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi in directing the course of a more peaceful, all inclusive and a greater Nnewi.
In his speech before inaugurating the new cabinet members, Igwe Nnewi spent over 40 minutes in detailing the job descriptions of the new cabinet led by Chief Chijioke Okoli, a senior advocate of Nigeria. He underscored the need for love for town, integrity, contentment, respect to constituted authority, progress-mindedness and conscientious of public good. Igwe also emphasised that all the members of the new cabinet were carefully selected based on their attainments in life and their demonstrable love for Nnewi. He finally then charged the members to make Nnewi, that was already great and renowned, to be greater.
While accepting the challenges of his new appointment, a Lagos- based legal luminary with offices across the country, Chief Chijioke Okoli SAN (whose chieftaincy title is Mgborogwu Oji Nnewi) promised to do all in his power to surpass the expectations of the Igwe by working harmoniously with all the cabinet members, the citizenry and Nnewi traditional institutions.
Other members of the executive committee of the new Nnewi Royal Cabinet who were also sworn-in after the inauguration include:
(i) 1st Vice Chairman – Chief Emeka Etiaba SAN (Nwakaibeya Nnewi)
(ii) 2nd Vice Chairman – Chief Professor Bertrand Obi Nwosu (Mkpadiligbo Nnewi)
(iii) Secretary – Chief Professor Joel Igbokwe (Ikemmutasinachukwu)

(viii) Protocol Officer- Chief Uzochukwu Anyadiegwu (Ochiagha)
(ix) Welfare Officer- Chief Sorge Egbuna (Nsobundu Nnewi)
The Cabinet members who spoke after the inauguration showed understanding of the challenges ahead while pledging to put in their best efforts to justify the confidence the Igwe and the Nnewi traditional institutions reposed in them by selecting them to serve in the Nnewi Royal Cabinet.
