River Benue: Gauging flood level still at emergency stage – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned that close shot at River Benue showes that the level of water is still under emergency level.

This was revealed after the monitoring of water level at the entery point of River Benue, Yola in Adamawa State.

According to Southwest Coordinator of NEMA, Ibrahim Falinloye, following the memo on possible release of water from lagdo dam Cameroon Republic informing Nigeria authorities to be on alert the agency went on monitoring of the river.

Falinloye said, in an effort to mitigate the impact of the impeding floods disaster on vulnerable communities along the banks of River Benue, officials of Nema Yola Operations Officer, led by Mr Ladan Ayuba, and staff, were at Bakin Kogi Community at the flood monumental mark to monitor the water level with a view to keeping communities at alerts in order to evacuate in good time to avert possible flooding.

He said the sensitization was continuous.
