For lovers of Afrobeat music, the name Tobi Toks is quickly becoming a household name, as he has consistently outperformed his contemporaries in terms of the quality of music published under his brand since his debut. Michael OluwatobiBhadmus also known as Tobi Tokz is a Nigerian Afro-pop & Afro-beats artiste that is rapidly breaking the mould with his unique style.
We don’t see enough of this in the Afropop scene: Anartiste’s full debut album resonating with anyone who listens without the need for gimmicks or extra promotional efforts. After witnessing Afropop’s evolution from infancy to a worldwide export, he realized the industry needed his own unique perspective, which resulted inhis banging EP titled, “Token”.
The artiste, Tobi Tokz calls himself an “emotional songwriter” because he is very skilled in summarizing and consequently transferring emotions straight from his heart into paper. He further disclosed that most of his songs are about intimate matters as well as the struggles and problems that arise and are faced in relationships.
The project contains soothing music, rhythmic and embodies an electric vibe and rhythm which synchronizes your ears and your soul. According to the artiste, his motivation and theme is birthed from emotionally stimulating experiences like sadness or happiness. “These help as I write the lyrics and structure the song. 90% of the time I start with the chorus and once I get the chorus, I try to get in touch with my emotions, then I begin to harmonize and think of melodies as well work on the verses afterwards” he elaborates. The five tracks were mixed and mastered by Patrick Osei and Ziey Kizzy at Hotmoney studios, UK and they are a mixture of Afrobeat and Afropop.

Lockdown was produced by Yomi Brasco; this is a song about companionship and to some extent intimacy in relationships. It focuses on a man’s appreciation of his partner during the pandemic and how experiencing Lockdown together made their bond stronger.

‘Femi’ is a song about desire and attraction in which the man seeks to determine whether the woman he has his heart set on will return his affection. ‘Femi’ was produced by Skool Beatz.
- TWEET
‘Tweet’ is a narrative song that tells the story of how two lovers met and summarizes the journey in their relationship. It is also a song of hope in which the man renews his commitment to his partner. ‘Tweet’ was produced by Jaemally Beatz.
- FRONTIN’
‘Frontin’ is a torch song about a man who longs to be engaged in a relationship with his crush. The mood in the song is playful and light whilst at the same time shines a light on the man’s frustrations. ‘Frontin’ produced by Jaemally Beatz.

‘Kisses’ is a heartfelt and sensual song about a man and his partner who when he feels overwhelmed by external factors outside of their relationship wants kisses from her to make him feel better. Kisses was produced by Skool Beatz and Inqboi Beatz.
Evidently, Tobi Tokz is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the nearest future.
