The Nigerian Navy on Thursday pulled out of service the immediate past Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, who described his exit as “the conclusion of a defining chapter” in his over three-decade-long military career.
The event, attended by top military commanders, members of the diplomatic corps, heads of security agencies and captains of industry, saw senior officers paying tribute to the retiring naval chief for what they described as distinguished and transformative service to the nation.
In his valedictory speech, the former naval chief expressed profound gratitude to God, the leadership of the Armed Forces and personnel of the Nigerian Navy for the support he received throughout his tenure.
The retired naval chief highlighted major achievements under his leadership, including enhanced maritime security operations, intensified campaigns against crude oil theft and piracy, and the expansion of the Navy’s fleet through acquisition of new platforms and improved local shipbuilding capacity.
He said the service also prioritised training and personnel welfare because “our most critical asset is not just the ship or equipment, but the sailor who mans it.”
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him, stating that leading the Nigerian Navy was “the highest honour of my life.”
Addressing officers, ratings and civilian staff, he commended their resilience and professionalism in executing complex operations under challenging conditions.
