Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, Lagos State, Hon. Sesi Whingan, has commended the recent decision to streamline the security checkpoints on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to just four.
In a Wednesday statement, Whingan’s media said this milestone follows a petition submitted by the lawmaker to the National Assembly, highlighting the hardships commuters faced due to excessive checkpoints and extortion by security personnel.
According to the statement, the announcement was detailed in a press release titled “Security Agencies’ Efforts to Curb Extortion and Abuse along Badagry-Seme Border Corridor Commendable.”
“The release outlined the outcomes of a high-level security meeting chaired by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command.
“The meeting approved checkpoints at four strategic locations: Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point, and Agbara Point,” the statement reads in part.
The statement said on October 16, 2024, Whingan presented a petition on behalf of his constituents, spearheaded by one Comrade Aladeotan David and his team, during a plenary session of the House of Representatives.
It said the petition, submitted during the Badagry Stakeholders and Youth Engagement event, described the financial and psychological toll imposed on commuters by illegal extortion and excessive checkpoints.
