The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of the Saturday’s chairmanship and councilorship elections across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The commission said the elections were generally peaceful, free and fair, with voting commencing at 8am and ending in most polling units without major security challenges.
Declaring the results, Chairman of the commission, Chief Patrick Enyi said the results of the elections were collated and verified before they were received from the various local government returning officers and subsequently announced in accordance with the provisions of the state electoral law.
In Abakaliki Local Government Area, he said Chidiebere Alo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled a total of 95,908 votes to emerge winner while Timothy Nwachi also of the APC won in Afikpo North local government with 82,175 votes.
According to him, Osborn Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi won in Ohaozara Local Government Area while Chidi Nwode the younger brother to the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru won in Ikwo Local Government Area.
Enyi further disclosed that, Mrs Peace Agwu was re-elected in Ishielu Local Government Area while Paul Ituma and Friday Nwuhuo won in Ohaukwu and Ezza North local government areas respectively.
The Chairman further disclosed that
Chinedu Mkpuma and Ikechukwu Ogbofia won in Ezza South and Onicha local government areas
He said Chief Michael Kalu Anyim and Chief Simeon Onuoha won in Ivo and Edda local government areas while Mrs. Helen Aduga and Chibueze Odigwe won in Izzi and Ebonyi local government areas.
