RCCG youth roll out another free bus service amid soaring transport costs

The Youth Province 1 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in collaboration with several other youth provinces across Lagos, has launched the second edition of its Free-Bus-to-Work initiative aimed at alleviating the rising cost of transportation for workers. The programme, which ran from November 24 to December 5, provided free daily transportation to and from major routes in Lagos and Ogun States.

First introduced last year, the initiative ran from October to December 2023 and was widely praised for offering timely relief to commuters amid escalating economic pressures. This year, the church deployed about 10 long yellow buses, transporting hundreds of workers each day from designated bus stops during both morning and evening peak periods.

The morning routes covered strategic corridors including RCCG Jesus’ Palace (Festac) to CMS, Oworonshoki to CMS, Redemption City to 7UP, Redemption City to Sagamu, Redemption City to Trinity Towers (Victoria Island), Redemption City to Agege, and Ikorodu to Maryland. Beneficiaries were also conveyed back to their destinations at the close of work, ensuring full-day support. The initiative reportedly cost the church about 40 million naira.

Pastor Oluwagbemileke Adeboye, Pastor-in-Charge of Youth Province 1, said the programme was borne out of a desire to ease the burden on Nigerians struggling with transportation costs. “This initiative is our way of lending a hand to people. We did it last year and witnessed the massive relief it provided, so we decided to do it again this year in collaboration with Youth Provinces 2, 7, 14, 18, and 20 of the RCCG,” he said.

Adeboye added that beyond providing financial relief, the daily trips also created opportunities for commuters to start and end their day with prayers, encouragement, and shared reflections. “It’s open to all, regardless of tribe and religion,” he noted.

He acknowledged the support of Pastor Martins Olusakin, Assistant Pastor-in-Charge of Province (CSR), and Pastor Abiodun Famojuro, Assistant Pastor-in-Charge (Administration), both of whom played key roles in coordinating the programme. The province is also intensifying preparations for the RCCG Holy Ghost Congress scheduled for the second week of December.

News of the free buses has spread rapidly, with many beneficiaries taking to social media to commend the church for its generosity. Commuters expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the support came at a critical time when transport fares continue to rise.

The RCCG Youth Provinces say they remain committed to expanding community-focused programmes that offer practical relief to Nigerians.
