Amid mounting economic pressures on households, the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has extended food support to Muslim and Christian communities across the district in observance of the Ramadan and Lent seasons.
The intervention, which spanned multiple communities, was directed at a broad spectrum of stakeholders including religious leaders, traders, women’s groups, youth organisations and civil society actors, reflecting what aides described as a targeted response to the needs of vulnerable residents.
Represented by her legislative aide, Alhaji Dr. Salami, the lawmaker said the outreach was informed by the realities confronting families, stressing that public office holders must remain sensitive to the conditions of the people they serve.
“At a time when many households are adjusting to economic strain, it is important that leadership reflects empathy and takes practical steps to support the people,” she said.

She noted that the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent presents a moment for reflection, sacrifice and shared responsibility, urging constituents to sustain a spirit of unity beyond religious lines.
“Our diversity should not divide us. In moments like this, we are reminded that our strength lies in looking out for one another, irrespective of faith or background,” she stated.
The items distributed, largely staple food supplies, were aimed at easing the burden on families during the fasting period, when demands on household resources typically increase.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reiterated that her role goes beyond legislative duties, adding that governance must translate into tangible support for constituents.
“My responsibility is not limited to lawmaking. It also involves ensuring that people feel the presence of governance in their daily lives,” she added.
Across the district, beneficiaries described the gesture as timely, noting that it would help stabilise household consumption and support small-scale traders navigating rising costs.
For many recipients, the outreach served as both material relief and a reassurance of continued engagement by their representative.
