Properties worth millions of naira were on Sunday night destroyed by a rainstorm in Ugbe, a sleepy community in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Many houses, business and commercial centres were destroyed by the downpour, which sources said lasted for barely an hour.
Residents of the community affected by the disaster have called for assistance from the state and local governments as many of them are already displaced as a result of the development.
Daily Sun gathered that valuables such as vehicles, building materials, computer sets, electronics and others were destroyed by the rainstorm.
It was learnt that the personal car of the Area Commander for Ikare-Akoko, Mr Razak Rauf, was one of the vehicles damaged by the storm.
The roof of a building blown off by rain landed on the vehicle and two others within the same compound.
A resident of Ugbe Akoko, Mr Ladi Bello, described the storm as destructive as it rendered many people homeless.
Bello urged the National Emergency Management Authority(NEMA) and the Ondo state government to provide relief materials for the victims.
A victim, Mrs Funke Ajayi, lamented that the roof of her shop was completely removed, such that her items, including rice and beans, were drenched in water.
Chairman, Akoko Northeast local government, Rafiu Eniayewu, sympathised with the victims, stressing that government and NEMA would assess the losses for possible assistance.
He urged residents to cultivate the habit of planting trees as wind breakers.
