Radda faults DMO claims on Katsina’s loans profile

From Agaju Madugba, Katsina

The Katsina State government has refuted the claims by the Debt Management Office (DMO) suggesting that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration took fresh loans thereby worsening the state’s debt profile.

A recent report by the DMO indicated that Katsina under Governor Radda, along with some other states of the federation, collected fresh loans.

However, reacting in a statement on Wednesday, the government said that, “the current All Progressives Congress administration under Governor Radda has not collected any loans since it came into office last year.”

On the contrary, according to the statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, “the Governor Radda-led government has preoccupied itself with repaying outstanding loans secured by previous administrations.

“This is not to say that the state government will not borrow whenever the need arises. It may borrow to improve the lot of its people and the state in general.

“At the moment, however, there is no new loan. We call on the media and members of the public to continue to support the present administration in its efforts at providing meaningful projects to uplift the living standard of its citizenry.”
