Comedian Diamond Dietanuru Osakorigho, the creator and presenter of Pararan Mock News, stands out among others of his ilk because of his unique news-format comedy.
The Warri, Delta State-born comedian, who started in 2017, has been consistent over the years, and his three-times-a-week breaking news-style output that parodies burning issues in society has won him acclaim on social media.
“Many people appreciate my comedy and how I pass my message on social media through my craft, it is a different thing entirely and not part of the regular. As a comedian, you have a unique ability to bring joy and laughter to people’s lives,” he said during a recent Instagram live chat with his fans and followers.
On his Instagram page, @pararanmocknews, where he regularly holds live chats with his followers, the comedian recently explained that he uses his platform “to address important social issues and promote positive change.”
His adoption of the news format for his comedy did not come as a surprise to many, given his background and education.
While the winner of the 2005 Made in Warri comedy contest earned a certificate in Business Method Studies from the Ghana Chartered Institute for Financial Investment Analysis, he has also been pursuing his interest in journalism at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) and mass communication at the City University in Cambodia.
Combining passion with education, he has been able to merge humour with journalism in an interesting way, “telling stories that inspire people and providing a platform for others to share their voices.”
In a recent Instagram live chat with TMY News, Diamond Dietanuru Osakorigho affirmed: “Growing up, I wanted to be one of the people that could tell people’s stories and make society a better place.”
