In a powerful drive to tackle poverty and unemployment, the Prestige Elite Club of Nigeria, in partnership with the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) Skill Acquisition Centre, has empowered and graduated over 50 residents through a six-month free vocational training programme.
The initiative, which offered practical training in fashion design, catering, barbing, photography, computer literacy, and hairdressing, was designed to provide participants with sustainable skills that open doors to self-reliance.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Lagos, the Vice President of the Club, Maureen Anyanwu, expressed pride in the transformation of the participants.
They are gurus now. In less than three months, many who never touched a sewing machine are producing clothes, and those who had never baked can now make cakes,” she said, adding that the Club would further support outstanding beneficiaries with start-up resources before year’s end.

The Club’s President, Mr. Ukhun Ehidiamen Anthony, explained that the empowerment programme was born out of the need for lasting solutions rather than temporary relief.
It is one thing to give someone a fish; it is another to teach them how to fish.
That is why we launched this initiative. Even after graduation, we won’t abandon them we have their database and will continue to link them with opportunities,” he affirmed.
Anthony further disclosed plans to set up a secretariat equipped with soap-making and other production machines to help graduates practice and grow their businesses at no cost.
The Officer-in-Charge of the NOWA Skill Centre, Lt. E. Yunusa, commended the programme’s impact, describing the transformation as “amazing.”
Beneficiaries also shared inspiring stories. Mrs. Nkechinyere Lovinna Ossai, who trained in advanced tailoring, said the programme gave her the confidence to launch her own fashion brand after retirement.
This opportunity has given me settlement and a future. I am grateful to the Club and pray more people get this chance,” she said.
The Prestige Elite Club, a self-funded humanitarian group, pledged to continue the empowerment drive with fresh batches in 2026, alongside expanded projects in education, health, water, sanitation, and prison outreaches.
