“When the people heard the sound of the ram’s horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it”. JOSHUA 6:20.NLT.

Victory is a reality that has eluded many people including church people. This is not because victory in life is unattainable. Rather, the elusiveness of victory is majorly a result of the misconception and or ignorance of the process involved and required to access unending victory in life.

The experience of the Children of Israel captured in our text above illuminates what victory implies and the demands that must be fulfilled in order to make it one’s reality. Let us state unequivocally that God wants all of His children, including you, to be victorious always and in all things. The scripture affirms in 1 Corinthians 15:57, “But thanks [be] to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

What is victory for you?

Victory means winning. It implies succeeding in an effort: having an advantage in a conflict, battle or competition. The dictionary defines it as “An instance of having won a competition or battle or succeeded in an effort. The condition of having succeeded in a conflict or other effort.” This is what God wants for us…never to be stuck with any challenge, but to always have the advantage no matter the circumstances, environment or other factors.

Victory would mean different things to different people. This is simply because our purposes and the paths to fulfilling them aren’t exactly the same in all instances. For the people of Israel, in the instance referred to in our text, victory was capturing the promised Jericho; which was heavily guarded against them. For you, victory could mean entering into the realities of the promises of God for your life, family or business in one way or the other. Victory could also mean getting a breakthrough in a keenly contested endeavour. Victory may mean achieving a particular dream or getting a promotion, attaining financial freedom, being healed from a life threatening disease or simply the capacity to pay your bills and meet up with basic obligations. The list is actually endless when it comes to the things that victory can imply for different people. However, the truth remains that whatever it means to you, it is the will of God for you to have victory in that area of your desire. This is what God’s program of redemption guarantees. We were redeemed to enjoy victory.

The path to unending victories

It’s true that God wants you to be victorious always and in every area of your life. However, it is also true that it won’t happen automatically or without your active participation. In Proverbs 21:31, the scripture explains that “The horse [is] prepared against the day of battle: but safety [is] of the LORD.” In other words, as you expect victory or safety of the Lord, there is a preparation required on your part to contribute to the manifestation of that victory.

It’s by choice

God’s will is never imposed on God’s people. God’s will is accessed by the choices we made which are in sync with the demands of His Word. Victory is the will of God for you. However, your choice determines your chance. Victory doesn’t happen accidentally. Every victory is created by right choices.

To get to the top, there are certain choices you must make. There must be a deliberate demonstration of faith and certain virtues to create the atmosphere for victories.

Maintain an attitude of praise

One fundamental requirement for enjoying unending victory is a lifestyle of praise. Your raise in any area of life is in your praise. The quality of your praise is the quality of your life. Only those who consciously and deliberately commit to a lifestyle of praise are empowered to be fruitful. Your attitude of praise should be dynamic, versatile and sacrificial. Praise is a prerequisite for enjoying victory. According to Psalms 150:1-6, everything that has the breath of God should praise the LORD. “Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

Therefore, it’s instructive to note that the struggles in the lives of many people are not primarily  results of their critical, complex circumstances. Many people including church people, are struggling mostly because of lost of excitement, gratitude and joy, which are all components of an attitude of praise. In other words, you can not maintain an attitude of praise if you have not dealt with certain anti-praise toxins: murmuring, fear and anxiety, depression, and being offended. Let’s consider the impacts of these anti-praise toxins when allowed into our lives.
