The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has called for total ban on the importation of petroleum products in the country.

In a statement issued after a protest held against importation of petroleum products by the polytechnic students across the country, the association warned against importation of petroleum products.

The protesting students said “this is the best time for the country to strengthen local refineries for the general regeneration of the nation’s economy.”

The polytechnic students called on the federal government to encourage local refineries.

In the statement endorsed by the National President of NAPS, Festus Oyewumi, the polytechnic students commended the federal government for the 15 percent tariff recently placed on importation of fuel into the country.

The students noted that the decision of the Federal Government will help to prioritize preference on local products.

They warned saboteurs to desist from attacking operators of local refineries and allow the business to thrive for the benefits of Nigerians.

Also, the students body warned saboteurs working against smooth operations of Dangote refinery to desist or face serious actions from the students.
