The Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum (PANDEF), has stated that it endorsed the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, because he has the wherewithal to restructure the country.

PANDEF’s  National Secretary,  Dr. Alfred Mulade, and  his deputy, Ken Robinson, stated this, yesterday, when they spoke at a meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Mulade said: “In the present circumstance, it is Atiku that has the vehicle to drive us to our destination of success and progress in this country.

“Unless restructuring is done, we cannot survive. We will continue to be a dumping ground. We don’t want a situation that after the presidential election, we (PANDEF) will not be remembered.

“Atiku Abubakar is the one we believe that has the qualities to address the challenges of this country. He has shown good evidence”, Mulade stated.

The Cross River State chapter also  justified its support for Atiku and called on the people to cast their votes for him.

Rising from a one day meeting, in Calabar, at the weekend, PANDEF leaders in the state, including Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw, Nella Andem Rabana (SAN) Col. Pam Ogar (retd.) and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa said the decision to support Atiku was informed by his capacity to unite the country and also restructure the country for the benefit of various nationalities.

PANDEF National Chairman, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (retd), who spoke about the group’s position, at a sensitisation campaign in Uyo, on Sunday, explained that although they are backing Atiku, they would withdraw such support if he backs down on the restructuring promise after becoming president.
