Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has advised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to prepare for an appeal instead of threatening the country with fire and brimstone over Thursday’s court judgement sacking its leadership.
Sani gave the piece of advice in a post on X on Thursday in reaction to the ADC’s response to the Federal High Court judgement that nullified the Senator David Mark-led leadership and invalidated the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Sani said, “The ADC should get ready to appeal their case instead of threatening the country with brimstones and fire.
“This is the price they have to pay for taking over a troubled party instead of registering a new one.”
Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on Thursday delivered judgement in a suit filed by former ADC Deputy National Chairman (North-East), Nafiu Bala Gombe, holding that the emergence of the Mark-led caretaker committee violated the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to recognise decisions taken at the party’s 99th National Executive Committee meeting held on July 27, 2025, including the process that produced Atiku as its presidential candidate.
The ADC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, rejected the judgement and vowed to appeal, warning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) not to set Nigeria on fire in its desperation to retain power.
“We warn the APC: do not play with fires you cannot control. The peace and stability of Nigeria are bigger than the ambition of any president or political party. Nobody should be so desperate to retain power that they are prepared to put the entire country at risk,” the party said.
The ADC said it would challenge the judgement through every available judicial process, citing a subsisting judgement by Justice Musa Liman of the same court delivered on July 2, 2026, which affirmed the legitimacy of the Mark-led National Working Committee.
