The police in Kano have arrested an officer for allegedly shooting and killing a young man engaged in a gang fight in Kurna Quarters, in Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
The shooting which happened on Tuesday also injured two other gang fighting youths
Disassociating itself from the tragedy, the police insisted that the officer. An Inspector did not receive any command from the existing chain of command before firing his shot.
“This action of the Police Inspector is quite regrettable. This is because, since the assumption of office of the CP, the Police have never entered into confrontation with the members of the public talk less of firing gunshot” a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa said
While commiserating with the family of the deceased and praying for the departed soul, the police urged the public to maintain calm, insisting that justice will be served.
‘Please let us all recognise that this is a trying period for the Police Command alongside all the peace-loving people of the State as “hijackers” are all over the place to instigate the escalation of violence” the statement concluded.
