Politician and free Nnamdi Kanu campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, was re-arrested by police authorities shortly after an Abuja Magistrate Court in Kuje granted him bail.
Sowore, along with Prince Emmanuel Kanu – brother of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu and a former member of Kanu’s legal team, Aloy Ejimakor, and 10 others, had earlier been granted bail after meeting all requirements set by the court.
The court had approved bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with two sureties residing within the Federal Capital Territory, holding valid identification, and providing three years of tax clearance.
However, despite fulfilling the conditions, Sowore was allegedly apprehended again by police officers immediately after the court session and taken back to the Kuje Correctional Centre. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, on fresh charges connected to his recent claim that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal
The Department of State Services (DSS) had filed a five-count criminal charge against Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja, for allegedly making false claims against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Sowore is accused of referring to the President Tinubu as a criminal in a post on his X handle.
It came a few days after the secret police requested Sowore to pull down the misleading message on Facebook and X.
In the charge, Mata (Facebook) Incorp and X Incorp were listed with Sowore as defendants.
One of the counts in the charge reads: “Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2019 and 2023 and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is, in the charge, accused of contravening the provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Amendment Act, 2024.
