Ondo State Police Command has clamed pdown on criminals, arresting over 28 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi , who spoke in Abuja said: “I have charged my officers to go after the criminals who are terrorising the state., especially cultists.
“We arrested 19 suspect cultists in relation to a clash that left five people dead in Owo Local Government. We raided all the hideouts of the hoodlums and more arrests will still be made.
“I have charged officers and area commanders and DPOs to tackle the hoodlums out of the state. I redeployed operatives of Police Tactical Team to the flash points on the Akure/Owo Expressway, Owo/Ondo Expressway, Ore/ Benin Expressway and Ore/Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
“We arrested 15 suspects for armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism. I have charged officers to apply professionalism in carrying out investigation and imbibe community policing.
“Officers should conduct themselves with decorum and alertness. They should work to promote intelligence policing, proactive crime prevention strategies and engagement.
“I want to thank the state government for given us operational vehicle to wage war against criminals. The command has imbibed community policing. This assisted us in our interactions with Obas, stakeholders, community leaders and our sister agencies to flush out criminals.
“I have warned officers to shun corruption and be committed to professionalism, selflessness and service. There will be priorities under my watch. New operational strategies, training and retraining of personnel will be paramount to enhance tactical engagement.
“We will also carry out confidence building and crime prevention patrol in the environs.” He called on the members of the public to always alert the police on suspicious movements: “We appreciate them for the useful pieces of information made available to the command.”
