The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State, Shehu Umar Nadada, has lauded the accomplishments of the command in curbing criminal activities, particularly child abduction.
While addressing the press on Friday in Lafia, CP Nadada paraded 57 suspects in connection with various crimes, and highlighted a recent case where the police intercepted a child abduction operation. “On the 10th January 2024, our vigilant operatives from the Keffi Division, during routine patrol, intervened in a distressing situation involving a mob. Through swift action, we rescued a five-year old boy, who had been abducted at Tsohon Kasuwa, Keffi. The perpetrator, Ismaila Adamu, was swiftly apprehended and the child was safely recovered.
“Investigation revealed that the perpetrator was part of a syndicate specialising in child theft, with intentions to sell the abducted children to the highest bidder. “Following the initial intervention by the Nasarawa State Police Command in foiling a child abduction operation, the investigation took a significant turn with the arrest of additional suspects.
“The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in collaboration with the Interpol Criminal Investigation Department (ICD) apprehended the following individuals: Hassana Jacob (female, 30 years), Elishua Idoko (male, 43 years), Gloria Ene (female, 38 years) and Abdulkarim Abubakar (male, 52 years).
“Others are: Ramatu Ibrahim (female, 41 years), Victoria Cosmos (female, 52 years), Eforma Sunday (female, 41 years), Dorcas Ologbo (female, 50 years) and Sherifat Amuda (female, 45 years).”
The CP further revealed that analysis of the suspects’ phones, indicated that they had been involved in trafficking 45 stolen children. “Shockingly, these innocent children were sold and illegally adopted by unsuspecting members of society,” he stated.
