The Cross River State Police Command has cordoned off the state House of Assembly complex.
This follows a plot by members to impeach the Speaker of the Assembly Hon Elvert Anyambem.
Police Public Relations Officer Irene Ugbo confirmed this to our correspondent in Calabar.
She said the decision of the police authority is to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say the Speaker, Hon Ayambem, has been impeached by some members of the house.
Ayambem was reportedly impeached in the early hours of Wednesday by his colleagues over alleged gross misconduct and administrative high-handedness and the maze was taken away following a fracas among members.
Over 20 members reportedly signed up for his impeachment and members are presently meeting outside the assembly to elect a new Speaker.
