The Nigeria Police Force has busted a warehouse allegedly used for storing illicit drugs in Mende, Maryland, Lagos, recovering substances with an estimated street value of ₦7.8 billion.

Several suspects, including the alleged kingpin of the drug syndicate, have been arrested. The operation was carried out by the Special Protection Unit (SPU) in collaboration with the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

Police said the raid followed months of surveillance and intelligence gathering. The alleged kingpin, Eke Henry Ifeanyi, 41, was arrested on May 19. Hundreds of bags containing substances suspected to be Canadian Loud, a potent variant of cannabis, were recovered from the warehouse, which investigators described as a major distribution hub within Lagos metropolis.

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, who addressed journalists at the scene on Saturday, said the operation followed sustained monitoring of the suspect and the facility over several months. He alleged that the suspect offered the commander of the SPU N500 million to halt the operation and allow his associates evacuate the consignment.

Jimoh said the offer was rejected and documented as part of the investigation.

“The suspect attempted to compromise the operation with a N500 million bribe, but the officers involved declined and followed due process,” he said.

The AIG described the operation as a testament to intelligence-led policing and effective collaboration between specialised units and divisional commands.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, in a separate statement, commended the officers for their professionalism.

“The professionalism shown in rejecting a ₦500 million bribe and carrying out the operation successfully reflects the standard expected of officers and strengthens public confidence in policing,” the IGP stated.

Police said all exhibits recovered from the warehouse had been documented and would be tendered in court as investigations continue to identify and prosecute other members of the syndicate.
