From Abel Leonard, Lafia

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen Toyota Prado Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Chigozie Samuel, a resident of Auta Balefi area of Karu LGA, was arrested by operatives attached to Mararaba ‘B’ Division following what the police described as “credible intelligence” on the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, alongside two accomplices still at large, allegedly robbed the driver of the Prado at gunpoint at Wuse Bridge, Abuja, before fleeing with the vehicle.

According to the statement, “Police operatives, acting on actionable intelligence, immediately launched a coordinated manhunt which led to the tracing and interception of the stolen vehicle behind the International Market, Karu.”

SP Nansel added that the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the police, but one of them was successfully chased and arrested, while others fled.

“The suspect has since confessed to the commission of the crime,” the police spokesperson stated.

Commending the officers for their swift response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect and the recovered vehicle to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command for further investigation and necessary action.

The police reiterated their commitment to combating crime across the state and urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and useful information to security agencies.
