Enugu State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime with the arrest and arraignment of four suspected “one-chance” robbers and the foiling of a kidnapping attempt in different parts of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives of the Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad arrested four members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate operating within Abakpa-Nike and other parts of Enugu metropolis.
According to him, the suspects were arrested on January 10, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m. while allegedly prowling for unsuspecting victims with a tricycle.
“The suspects, identified as Ndubuisi Achioko, male, aged 62; Nnaji Okeh, male, aged 55; Nwobodo Dennis, male, aged 57; and Chinedu Idam, female, aged 36, all residents of Abakpa-Nike, Enugu, were apprehended while operating with a tricycle, which was recovered, and allegedly prowling for unsuspecting victims,” Ndukwe stated.
He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to being part of a larger criminal network. Ndukwe disclosed that the suspects had since been charged to court and remanded in custody.
In a separate development, the Police Command also announced that a joint team of police officers and neighbourhood watch operatives foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Adani–Nsukka Road, neutralising one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle.
The incident occurred on January 18, 2026, at about 6am at the Ngene-Ukwu axis of the road.
“Operatives attached to the Adani Division, in collaboration with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, foiled a kidnapping attempt at the Ngene-Ukwu axis of the Adani–Nsukka Road following an intense gun duel with armed kidnapping suspects. During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was neutralised, while an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of live ammunition was recovered.”
Ndukwe explained that preliminary investigations showed that the kidnappers had emerged from a nearby bush to attack motorists.
The police spokesman said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network, urging the public to assist security agencies.
